A white van used in a serious fly-tipping incident at Benfield Valley last month is being sought by Brighton & Hove City Council’s enforcement team which has a warrant allowing it to seize the vehicle.

The fly-tipping, which consisted of a variety of household waste, including old cupboards and a mattress, was left on a public footpath on August 11. The incident was witnessed by a member of staff at the Benfield Valley Golf Club who managed to take down the vehicle registration number.

The van – registration number N577 FPX – was subsequently seen parked in Boundary Road in Hove, but has since disappeared.

Brighton Magistrates' Court has granted a ‘vehicle seizure warrant’ to the council which authorises the immediate impounding of the vehicle.

Councillor Geoffrey Theobald, cabinet member for environment, said:
“This was a disgraceful amount of fly-tipping on one of our open spaces. We are always prepared to apply for a seizure order for the vehicle in these cases. The van may now have been sold on but we are not giving up and are asking anyone who sees it to contact the council.”

Anyone with information about this incident should call the case officer at Cityclean’s enforcement team on 01273 294512 or Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 quoting crime serial number 352/12 – 08.
