Brighton & Hove City Council has appointed a new Planning Investigations and Enforcement Manager who has previously worked in negotiating solutions and enforcing planning regulations.
Gerard McCormack, 27, joined the council this week from the London Borough of Hounslow where he led the local Planning Enforcement team. He has a background in planning and enforcement including achieving the UK ’s biggest ever planning enforcement fine of £150,000. He has an MSc in Spatial Planning and worked in development control before specialising in enforcement planning.
Amongst Gerard’s key aims is to review the city’s Planning Enforcement Policy and with his team to make sure conditions attached to planning permissions are complied with.
Lynda Hyde, chairman of the city’s planning committee, said:
”We want to focus on informing our residents of the planning process and how to make it work to everyone’s benefit. Gerard’s appointment demonstrates that we are committed to fair enforcement, but that we will take action when necessary.”
Mr McCormack said:
“I’m keen to get stuck in to the work in Brighton & Hove and work with residents to make sure that everyone works with the planning regulations.
“Over the next few months, you’ll see a number of campaigns that I plan to introduce to help residents and small business understand what they can do and what they should not do."
