A proposed parking zone for the London Road Station Area has been revised following consultation with residents and local businesses.
The council’s amended scheme proposes a parking zone that would cater for the majority of residents who are in favour of a residents’ parking zone.
Consultation on a proposed parking zone for London Road Station Area originally took in an extended area following concerns that residents would experience
‘displacement’ parking from the neighbouring new Preston Park parking zone.
However, the consultation revealed more than two-thirds wanted residents’ parking in a smaller area around the station and the council has responded with an amended scheme.
Councillor Geoffrey Theobald, cabinet member for environment, said:
“We are trying to achieve a parking zone that responds to the majority of residents who have campaigned for controlled parking in the area. These residents are suffering acute parking problems and safety issues on their streets.
“The consultation showed that a majority were not in favour of an extended area of controlled parking, so, in order to take those views into account, the boundary has been set within a smaller area around London Road station.”
Brighton & Hove’s environment cabinet member meeting will consider the consultation results and the proposed new parking zone on Thursday, November 5.
If agreed the proposed parking zone will be advertised through a Traffic Order, when residents will have a further opportunity to comment.
