Brighton and Hove City Council, NHS Brighton and Hove, and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust are together organising a series of consultations with members of the public this October. The events will discuss how to promote equality for all and tackle discrimination for everyone in Brighton and Hove.

The council and other public bodies are legally required to have schemes explaining the barriers that exist and listing their actions to overcome them in relation to Race, Disability and Gender. Changes in the law mean that they will soon also have to cover Age, Religion or Belief and Sexual Orientation as well.

The organisations are now reviewing their current actions and priorities identified through other consultation, to update their schemes so that they produce one scheme which covers all six of these equalities areas and other key issues. As part of this process they would like to hear from individuals, representatives of groups, service-users, staff and the public what they think the service providers could be doing better to support equality, respect and fairness for all.

The three consultation events are:

Saturday October 3: 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm
Audrey Emerton Building, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Eastern Road, Brighton

Monday October 5: 10am – 1pm, 2pm – 5pm and 6pm – 8pm
Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton

Thursday October 29: 10am – 1pm, 2pm – 5pm and 6pm – 8pm
Hove Town Hall, Norton Road, Hove

Each event will have BSL sign language interpreters and induction loops available.
