Despite claims from the Conservative administration that there will be a council tax increase of only 2.5%, the council will actually receive 4.7% more from people living in the City.

It has been revealed that the Conservative Council will be getting an unforeseen 2.2% extra in council tax from the residents of Brighton and Hove on top of their proposed council tax increase of 2.5%, which will mean in real terms the council, will get 4.7% more revenue from the tax payer.

The extra identified 2.2% of council tax payers’ money will generate an estimated £1.1 million.

The Labour opposition spokesperson for finance, Cllr Les Hamilton, added:
“Although the Conservative’s are boasting about their council tax in crease of 2.5%, they are actually receiving 4.7% more in taxes from residents in the City.  Not only are they getting more money from tax payers, but they are cutting up to 160 jobs and public services as well.”
