Brighton & Hove City Council has been successful in securing funding for more Future Jobs Fund work opportunities with an additional £975,000 available for the city.
The funding will help create a further 150 jobs for unemployed youngsters to train in the cultural, creative & digital media field. The jobs will be for at least six months and, where employers match the funding available, in many cases for a minimum of a year as an apprenticeship.
These new jobs bring the total created under the Future Jobs Fund to 700 alongside the target of 500 apprenticeships created citywide by 2012.
Councillor Ted Kemble, Brighton & Hove’s cabinet member for Enterprise and Employment, said:
“What better way to demonstrate our true commitment to getting young people into work than create new posts in one of the city’s most exciting industries? The cultural, creative & digital media field is often highlighted as a key growth area in Brighton & Hove, so it only makes sense that our young people train and work in it.”
The jobs will be open to 18-24 year-olds who have been claiming Jobseekers Allowance between 6-12 months.
