Brighton’s Chief Superintendent has joined the line-up for the start of this year’s Equality Walk. The Walk, which takes place on Sunday May 2, supports Stonewall’s Education for All programme which tackles anti-gay bullying in schools.
Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett will join the Deputy Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn at the start of the Walk. They’ll be alongside Guinevere Turner – American actress and screenwriter of
Go Fish and
The L Word – and Rikki Beadle-Blair, director of FIT Stonewall’s anti-bullying film for schools. The Brighton Equality Walk is supported by American Express and Pepe Vazquez-Mendez, Head of their UK Operations will also attend the Walk’s opening.
Registration for the Walk is £10 and there is a prize for the top fundraiser: a weekend break for two in Paris, travelling business class by Eurostar, a two night stay in a four star hotel and £500 spending money.
This year the Brighton Equality Walk is in aid of Stonewall’s work with Primary Schools. Stonewall’s developing a series of resources to help primary school teachers understand and celebrate different families – including posters for schools, a training DVD for primary school teachers and information about stories that reflect modern lives.
Michaela Greene, Stonewall’s Deputy Director of Fundraising, said:
"Teachers can struggle to acknowledge that different families exist – and this has an impact on children and young people. By working with Primary Schools we can reduce this impact and make school a safe and inclusive environment for all children."
