Two bus services faced with the axe in the Conservative Council’s budget have won a last minute reprieve after Brighton & Hove Bus Company has stepped in to continue running the services, at least until the autumn.

The additional frequency for the number 27 and the number 21 extension service will be maintained by Brighton & Hove Bus Co, following the £97k reduction in Conservative council’s supported transport budget.

Cllr Gill Mitchell said,
“Given that the increased frequency of the number 27 has steadily boosted passenger numbers from the Westdene area, it is a crazy move on the part of the Conservative Council to now cut that frequency back.  The Bus Company has thrown these services a life-line and the Council should be using some of its huge £7 million parking profits to continue both of these services.”

Cllr Mitchell, Leader of the Labour Group on Brighton & Hove City Council, has written to the Managing Director of the Brighton & Hove Bus Company, Roger French, thanking him for intervening to save these services, at least in the medium term, stressing the importance of these services in reducing unnecessary car journeys into the city centre.
