Brighton & Hove City Council has started to plan for next year’s entry into the South and South East in Bloom competition and is hoping residents and businesses will join in.

The council’s City in Bloom Working Group will be entering the Town Centre in the annual competition and is already planning a route for judges covering business and residential areas.

Councillor Geoffrey Theobald, Cabinet Member for Environment explained:
“South East in Bloom is a team effort and the judges will be looking at the whole environment, from floral displays to litter and graffiti, along with evidence of business and community involvement.

“This is why it is crucial that we encourage local residents and businesses to play their part in the campaign. Together we can make a real difference to the appearance of our city.”

The council has already met with community groups to support their plans to enter the various South and South East in Bloom categories. They include Kemptown gardeners who will be hoping to repeat this year’s success in the Urban Category when they scooped a silver gilt award. A new entry in the Urban category is also being planned by Juliette Hunting and colleagues from the  Brunswick area in Hove.

Rottingdean will be entering the 2010 Community category after taking a year off. Rottingdean’s best success was in 2005 when the village won a Silver award.
