Around one hundred and fifty people attended a candle lit vigil in the Old Steine on Friday evening (30) to show solidarity with other vigils taking place  around the country and to remember victims of Hate Crime all over the world.

The event was hosted by Billie Lewis and speakers included Pink Paper reporter Steve Bustin, Lib Dem Councillor David Watkins, and Labour party candidate for Brighton Pavilion, Nancy Platts who brought attention to the recent murder in Trafalgar Square of Ian Baynham, the horrendous attack on the trainee policeman in Liverpool, James Parkes and the trans woman who was recently murdered in Brighton, Andrea Waddell.

In closing the event Billie Lewis reminded everyone if they are a victim of a hate crime to report it to the police. If they are not happy with the police response, to report it to the local gay press.
