A number of Brighton's pubs and restaurants will be raising money for Oxjam, the climate change campaign set up by Oxfam.

Terre a Terre, Graze Restaurant, L'Eglise, Zafferellis & Goa Spice of Life are just some of the restaurants and bars who have signed up to the initiative called Oxjam on a Plate. It will run in selected restaurants in Brighton for 10 days, from Friday October 2 until Sunday October 11, as part of the city's Oxjam Brighton month.

Participating restaurants have agreed to add an optional charge of 50p to diner’s bills during this time – with all the money raised going directly to Oxjam Brighton for Oxfam’s Climate Change campaign.

Also, over 50 pubs around the city will be participating in Oxjam Top Up between Friday October 2 and Sunday October 4. Pubs will be rounding up drinks to the nearest 50p with the change being donated to Oxjam. Participating pubs include The Thomas Kemp, Mash Tun and the Funky Buddha Lounge, The Beaufort Arms, The St James, Hectors House, The Great Eastern, The Office & The Pull & Pump.

Rebecca Crook, Oxjam Regional Manager said:
“We are overwhelmed at the support we have had from the restaurants and pubs around Brighton. The whole city has joined together to put global warming at the top of its agenda. Climate change will directly affect food availability in the future. 50p is a small price to pay to contribute to our future”.

In addition to Oxjam on a Plate, during the month of October musicians, bands and dj’s will be taking to the stages, back rooms and street corners in Brighton, putting music at the heart the city as part of Oxjam, the UK’s biggest music festival. Oxjam 2009 will be raising money and awareness for Oxfam and its Climate Change campaign.

Musician and restaurant owner Fatboy Slim played the first Oxjam charity shop gigs in 2007 and is back to raise the roof once again in 2009. Norman said:
“I have always donated my unwanted records to my local Oxfam shop and have found some real treasures there too, so it'll be great to head down and show off some of my best charity shop finds. All you need to make an Oxjam event happen is a set of decks, a few choice tunes and a place to play them, so there’s really no excuse not to get involved.”

The highlight of the month-long festival will be the Oxjam Takeover on Sunday October 25, when more than 2,000 musicians will fill over 150 venues in more than 20 cities in a single day to raise funds for Oxfam. Brighton’s Oxjam Takeover will be taking place at Coalition.
