Following the announcement that Pride in Brighton & Hove had identified a potential financial deficit of £50,000 this year, over £1,000 was donated in the first week. Despite the initial online activity things have slowed down considerably, putting the total raised in three weeks to £2,816.35.
Yvonne Barker, Chair of Pride in Brighton & Hove said:
“The message is clear, if we are unable to raise sufficient funds to cover the expected shortfall, we will need to seriously scale back next year’s Pride festivities and reduce the support we are able to give to local LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community groups.”
Planned fundraising events include:
White Air supports Pride: White Air, Europe’s largest extreme sports festival, is showing their support by setting up an exclusive Pride promotional link on Ticketmaster where people can buy discounted weekend, Friday/Saturday or Sunday tickets. And, for every ticket sold through this link, White Air will make a donation to Pride in Brighton & Hove.
Judith Manson, Pride’s Fundraising and Communications Manager said:
"This is a great offer to both ticket buyers and Pride, we are delighted to work with White Air in its first year on the coast, they have a fantastic line up over three days and two huge nights, the likes of which Brighton has never seen before. With the collapse of Beachdown, Loop and the recent question mark over the comedy festival its very important that we work together and help each other in these difficult times, like Pride White Air is just what Brighton is about, we should all support it so it is not only a fantastic event this year but every year in the Brighton calendar."
