Brighton Festival wins 'Tourism Event of the Year'

Brighton & Hove has won a number of awards and commendations at an event honouring the best among the south-east’s tourism industry. At a ceremony for the Tourism South East ‘Tourism ExSEllence Awards’, Brighton Festival won the ‘Tourism Event of the Year’ Award.
 
The Festival was honoured for delivering 165 events, including 26 premieres and commissions and 11 free outdoor performances, across three weeks in May this year.  The Festival was also praised for its vision in bringing internationally renowned sculptor Anish Kapoor as its first Guest Artistic Director.
 
Other  Brighton tourism businesses and services secured commendations at the awards ceremony, including:
 
·        Brighton Visitor Information Centre –
         Tourism Information Service of the Year
·        Brighton Centre – Business Tourism Award
·        Pretty Clever Events – Business Tourism Award
·        M’s Cycle Hire – Sports Tourism Award
·        NIVEA  SUN  Yellowave  Beach Sports Venue – Sports Tourism Award

Brighton Dome and Festival’s Chief Executive Andrew Comben said:
“We had an incredible Festival this year with exceptional performances and rave reviews, and it was terrific to see the whole city showing itself off at Festival time.
 
“Brighton was in the spotlight as never before with our newly focused programme gaining more attention and recognition, and we’re delighted to see that we have attracted increased visitor numbers engaging with the Festival. It is fantastic to win this award and gain industry recognition after such a successful year.”
