The Samba band, Estrondo will be out on Brighton’s streets this weekend busking for vitally needed funds for the earthquake victims of Haiti.
The 12 performers will be playing a mix of samba, funk and samba-reggae tunes on Saturday January 30 at 1pm in Jubilee Square and on Sunday January 31 at 1pm Hove Park Cafe.
The band aims to raise funds to go to the Haitian organisation, POZ, who are based in Port au Prince. They support over 2,000 people living with HIV. POZ is a member of the Brighton-based International HIV/AIDS Alliance.
Anna Massey, 30, is one of the founding members of the band and works at the International HIV/AIDS Alliance Secretariat in Brighton as a fundraiser.
Ms Massey said:
“After many days of waiting to hear from our colleagues at POZ we understand that sadly a number of staff were killed in the earthquake when the building collapsed on them.
“The rest of the staff are now living on the streets. Their homes are destroyed, the office is gone and the work to provide care, treatment and support for people living with HIV is completely disrupted. We are raising money to help the individual staff so they can in turn help the local people access medicines and food.
“We want to bring some great music to the Brighton public and raise lots of money for people who have lost everything."
