It concerns me that there is a distinct lack of public toilets available to those residents who live in Kemp Town. I appreciate that there are facilities on the seafront along Marine Parade (with I believe four such facilities on the stretch from the pier to the marina), but these are not readily accessible to the many elderly and disabled residents who live in Kemp Town and cannot travel such distances. Actually they are not that convenient for the vast majority of residents who can hardly be expected to walk down to the seafront to use the facilities there.
South of Edward St and Eastern Road there are no public toilets unless you can make your way down to Marine Parade, and even North of these streets you fair little better, with only one public toilet adjacent to the Queen's Park playground available in an area that stretches from the Old Steine over to Whitehawk and from the sea-front up to Elm Grove (ignoring the Marine Parade facilities).
This is simply not acceptable.
For example, I cannot see why the toilet block at the bottom of Upper Rock Gardens (pictured) cannot be repaired and put back into use - this is in an ideal location and would be welcomed at this busy thoroughfare.
I think it's about time to stop selling/renting these sites out as new cafes, florists etc and return them back to being useful and much needed toilet facilities.
