Letter to the editor: Pride not listening
By Mike Dalley

Well tonight public Pride meeting was a waste of time for most of those attending.
Despite calls from the likes of Jess Wood from Allsorts for a new structure the entrenched attitudes prevailed.
What can be done to protect Pride 2010?
How can we move the business interest forward?
As Dean from Wilde Ones said - "time is running out".
I cant believe that Pride was too proud to accept the offer that was tabled to help the out and get them off the hook.
The city has a turnover of £7m at risk and all Pride wanted to talk about was transparency. I didn't see much transparency from Pride tonight.
At my advanced years I no longer go to the park, but realise the attraction of the Cabaret and Dance tents.
The street party which is funded and run by businesses works - well sort of - but is part and parcel of the weekend.
So why the aversion to a commercial elements?
I fail to understand.
A lot of willing business partners walked out of the meeting feeling totally frustrated and to some degree betrayed by the present Pride board. They clearly have their own agenda and were not listening.
I'm of an age when I have lived through many milestones of Gay equality. I could have been imprisoned because of my sexuality. But that is in the past.
The event must celebrate what has been done and what needs to be done as well as the party in the park.
So the name Gay Pride, in my view, should be a starting point, plus acceptance of the business offer to run the park and allow Pride to focus on the parade, the message and funding our local charities.
The clock is ticking.
