Gay men in London are being encouraged to protect themselves against Hepatitis B as part of Hepatitis B Awareness Week (September 28 – October 3).
The campaign is being launched by 56 Dean Street which is a new state-of-the-art sexual health clinic located in the heart of London’s West End.
According to Dr Alan McOwan, Service Director for Sexual Health at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Trust:
“High-risk activities such as unprotected sex can increase during the summer months and put gay men at higher risk than usual of contracting Hepatitis B. We want to remind gay men about this serious disease and the fact they can visit 56 Dean Street to get vaccinated. The procedure is free, quick and straightforward, available without an appointment, and is the only real way to protect themselves.
“As part of the awareness week campaign, a Health Bus will be situated outside the Duke of Wellington bar, Soho, on Wednesday September 30 from 5pm until 7:30pm. The Health Bus brings the Hepatitis B vaccination service conveniently onto the streets of Soho which some gay men may prefer.”
