Penelope Cruz has given an exclusive interview to Diva in which she talks about kissing Scarlett Johansson and singing alongside Nicole Kidman.
She talks to Diva about the kiss, appearing nude from her earliest roles, and the public perception of her as a role model.
Cruz on how exciting it was to play
‘the trio’ in Vicky Christina Barcelona and her kiss with Scarlett Johansson:
“I knew it was going to get a big reaction. We always had good stories to tell about what happened that day on set because of Woody. We were able to laugh about it, Scarlett and I.”
Since her breakthrough performance in Jamón, and continuing through her career Cruz has frequently appeared nude and played sex scenes, but the actress is not entirely comfortable doing son, she said;
“I’m not comfortable talking about it. Doing it is fine. Talking about it makes me uncomfortable.”
On the pressures and responsibilities of being in the public eye:
“I’ve had a lot of strong, beautiful women in my life. And I’m grateful for that. I don’t feel comfortable giving advice, unless it’s to people very close to me. I don’t consider myself as a role model or a feminist, no. I’m kind of allergic to labels. You cannot live your life looking at yourself from someone else’s point of view.”
