Anti Scientologist Protest in Churchill Square
Anonymous a local protest group that holds regular demonstrations against the Church of Scientology were joined by members from the London branch of Anonymous last weekend. They were highlighting the fact that some members of Brighton Anonymous have allegedly been forced to quit the protest group for their own safety.
Brighton Anonymous, have been holding regular demonstrations outside the Church of Scientology's Brighton office in North Street on the corner of Churchill Square. In recent months, they claim that several of their members have experienced threats by Scientology members, including emails, phone calls and solicitors letters. It is alleged that one member has had to quit the group after receiving threats to him and his family.
Sister group, London Anonymous, aware of these recent issues came to support the Brighton group in last Saturdays demonstration.
The protest highlighted the anniversary of Lisa McPherson’s birthday. Lisa was a scientology member found dead in 1995 after being locked in a room belonging to Scientologists for 17 days. It is thought she was locked away to prevent psychiatric treatment being administered after she had an accident. Scientologists are completely opposed to psychiatry. Scientology also opposes homosexuality, viewing it as an illness or perversion causing danger to society.
The theme of the protest was Christmas, the time of year where families can be forced to disown each other within Scientology if members have family or friends that don’t support the religion.
This is part of their ‘disconnection policy.’
