Poet Vince Laws has written a coming-out poem in response to the 140 Characters project running at the Fusion screen, in the Forum, Norwich.
Vince said:
"I was inspired by the thought-provoking tweets sent in by participants - telling LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) coming out stories in just 140 characters, stories from straight friends and family, supportive experiences and horror stories. There's a 13th century declaration which begins, 'I am Taliesin. I sing in perfect metre, Which will last to the end of the world.' and I wanted to bring it right up to date, by declaring who I am."
The 140 Characters project encouraged local LGBT people to turn some tweets into 12 second films, and the results are shown on the Fusion screen daily from 10am-5pm until Saturday January 23. Weekdays 10am-2pm Pride representatives, along with writers from Writers' Centre Norwich, Library staff, and City College staff, are on hand to explain the project and encourage anyone who might be considering developing writing or film making skills.
The poem, My Name is Vincent which includes adult themes and language, can be read at:
