A photographic exhibition shows the work of people who recently took part in an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) photography workshop.
A spokesman for the exhibition said:
"A unique exhibition of photographic art will be open to the public this weekend. ‘IN-Sight’ showcases the work of four people who took part in a series of photography workshops as part of the Brighton Photo Fringe photography festival 2010. The project was delivered in partnership between Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard and Brighton Photo Fringe, with support from Brighton & Hove Partnership Community Safety Team. The workshops offered an opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people to explore and express thoughts and feelings through photography.
"Participants varied in their experience of photography. The group worked together to enable each person to develop a series of images for exhibition. The work shown represents the stories and perspectives of this diverse group of artists. The insights offered are sometimes painful, sometimes moving, sometimes humorous but consistently honest."
One participant showing her work in the exhibition said:
"I’ve enjoyed the project so much – it’s really boosted my confidence in taking pictures and reignited my passion for photography."
LGBT Switchboard’s Services Manager, Elizabeth Noble, said:
"It’s been fantastic for Switchboard to work with the Brighton Photo Fringe and to offer LGBT people the chance to share experiences and develop how they communicate through photography. The group were so enthusiastic and supportive of each other and they have produced beautiful images that speak very eloquently about different aspects of their lives and experience. I’m proud of what we’ve all achieved together."
Brighton & Hove LGBT Switchboard has been providing helpline and counselling services for LGBT people since 1975 and the Brighton Photo Fringe coordinates a city-wide festival of exhibitions and events in partnership with Brighton Photo Biennial.
The IN-Sight exhibition is open to the public this weekend (12pm-5pm, Friday October 29 – Sunday October 31) at the Fringe Focus Gallery, Former Co-op Store, 94–101 London Road, Brighton BN1 4LB.
