The Sunday Lunch category at the Golden Handbags proved to be one of the most popular awards this year.
There is a long tradition in Brighton of taking Sunday lunch accompanied by cabaret. Many will remember the legendary Sunday afternoons spent in Fudges restaurant with Dockyard Doris, Phil Starr and Maisie Trollette.
They were halcyon days.
The Queens Hotel is the latest seafront venue to offer a Sunday lunch deal with top line cabaret. Lunch is served quite early from 1pm with cabaret at 2.30pm and costs £19.95 for three courses.
Coming dates include:
• Davina Sparkle on July 31
• Drag With No Name on August 28
• Maisie Trollette on September 25
• Miss Jason on October 30 and
• Davina Sparkle on November 27
On our visit Maisie Trollette kept the diners well entertained. The food was first class with plenty of it. Imaginative starters, tender meat for the main course and very naughty puddings.
It’s difficult to critique a Sunday lunch. The chef either gets it right or he doesn't. This chef got it right - the meat was cooked to perfection and that’s all you can ask of a Sunday roast experience.
This Sunday, June 26, Miss Jason is in the driving seat following his show stealing appearance at the Golden Handbags last weekend. There are a few places left.
